Do you know enough?

Posted by rtp in Untagged

If not, what are you doing about it?

If so, who do you think you're kidding?

[Interesting side alley: I was talking to a friend yesterday and encouraged her to speak at an upcoming conference. She said, "No way. I don't know enough." I explained that volunteering to speak was the best way to be sure that she'd end up knowing enough by the time she was through.]

How To Lose

Posted by rtp in Untagged

Actual conversation at a local shoe store: "Do you have dress shoes in a size 6?"

"No, I'm sorry we don't."

"We're from out of town. Do you know any place we can get some?"

"I'm sorry I don't. Perhaps you'd like some in a size 8?"

The Cliff

Posted by rtp in Untagged

I got two different business plans from friends today.

Both of these guys are big thinkers, entrepreneurs through and through and destined for greatness. And both had precisely the same problem with their plan. It's a problem that's becoming very common... for products, for services, online and off. The problem is caused by our networked world, the quest for the Cow and the goal of reaching a Tipping Point.

In the old days, there was pretty much only one way to grow a business. Start small, make some money, get a little bigger, repeat. Over time, you could fund your way to bigness. VCs can help you jumpstart, sure, but raising 100 or 400 million dollars to skip all the steps on the way to bigness is rare indeed.

YOUR BUSINESS HAS TO WORK WHEN IT'S SMALL IN ORDER TO SURVIVE TO THE POINT WHERE IT GETS BIG.

Too good to be true (the overnight millionaire scam)

Posted by rtp in Untagged

You probably don't need to read this, but I bet you know people who do. Please feel free to repost or forward:

Times are tough, and many say they are going to be tougher. That makes some people more focused, it turns others desperate.

You may be tempted at some point to try to make a million dollars. To do it without a lot of effort or skill or risk. Using a system, some shortcut perhaps, or mortgaging something you already own.

There are countless infomercials and programs and systems that promise to help you do this. There are financial instruments and investments and documents you can sign that promise similar relief from financial stress.

The State of the Music Industry. CD Sales, Fabulous Living, & More..

Posted by pricer in Untagged

What is the state of the current music industry? I often wonder, I hear music insiders, and media analyst say album sales are down, people aren't buying as much as they used too. But I question them on, are they taking into account that musicians are performers, they also can make money from digital downloads such as on iTunes and other websites that offer digital downloads.

What about ringtones? With ringtones ranging anywhere from .99 to $10.00 a pop, it's almost as if an artist can recoup lousy album sales with the assistance of ringtones nowadays. Of course I imagine every artist goal and dream is to diversify themselves whether it is in movies, television, film, radio, fashion, or print, artists have an ample opportunity to pay their bills and still splurge.

While watching VH1's The Fabulous Life of... (whoever they want to show this week), it makes one seem as if the current economic recession that we are in, either isn't affecting major artists, or their splurging beyond their means, which often makes me wonder as well.
